lyrics

Banditos

I bought you from banditos in the plains
Along with some of your family’s remains
Then robbed them blind, hope you don’t mind
Took those men for all that they were worth
And I buried them deep in the dusty earth

I saved you from adorning a headstone
But arrogance says you did it on your own
Answer to no one, handle your own gun
She said, “I alone own what you ‘rightly’ stole
And I don’t need no man to make me whole”

We travel trails, you point out my mistakes
‘til you step straight into a den of snakes
I kill the brood…to make us food
You say, “this doesn’t mean you’ll share my bed
I need a man like a hole in my head”

Now I don’t talk much, and you’re still young
But I’m finding it hard holding back my tongue

I offered you my blanket, you just laughed
Built a shelter, you complain about the draft
Must you persist? I got the gist
You just can’t wait to get back into town
And you made it clear, you don’t need me around

I woke to hear the night pierced with your cries
Banditos kidnapped you, took our supplies
Now I love a fight, must do what’s right
But though I know full well the consequence
Went back to sleep, enjoying the silence
