lyrics

Shame on the family
From this family, shame upon her. She has brought us great dishonor
Violence insures compliance. A strong message to stop defiance
Merciful act stops this phase. Women adopting western ways
We’ll restore standing, Allah willing. Rectify with honor killing

Shafilia was the eldest daughter, murdered by her parents
For rejecting an arranged marriage and her choice of clothes
On the surface, this doesn’t seem to make much sense
But this was the path that poor Shafilia chose

A person without honor’s like an animal. Expectations to fulfill, our ideology
Tried in vain to disavow, I’m afraid we can’t allow…S-H-A-M-E on the family

Oghad Singh left her husband, moved back to her birth place
Began to date again for she was feeling down
Never once considered how she gave her parents disgrace
Until they took her head and had to march it thru the town

CHORUS

Banaz had a relationship her dad did not approve of
Her brother and father arranged a murder to show
That ol’ saying “a woman shamed is like rotting flesh”
But that same flesh sure helps the garden to grow

CHORUS
From this family, shame upon her. She has brought us great dishonor
Violence insures compliance. A strong message to stop defiance
Merciful act stops this phase. Women adopting western ways
We’ll restore standing, Allah willing. Rectify with honor killing
