lyrics

Powder Monkey

He never was one for looting
Raping, marauding or shooting
He pillaged a village or two
But the kid always seemed different from the crew

He held his rum with the best
But put his captain to the test
Had an eye patch and a parrot
A wooden leg, but wouldn’t wear it

(CHORUS)
A pirates life is on the sea
My father often said to me
You curse, you spit, you never shave
And always take your secrets to the grave

They pulled into port with a plan
Loot it and take the women
The kid had decided to stay
And that’s the reason he’s alive today

The village prepared for attack
None of the pirates came back
Hid himself during the fray
Hoisted the sails and slowly pulled away

(CHORUS)

And the powder monkey huddles in the hull
Takes shelter from the squall
Praying to avoid atolls
Sea monsters and the sirens call
Standing steady at the ready
To load the muskets and prepare the cannonballs

Headed for friendlier shores
Drinking was his only chore
Chicks dig the treasure he flaunted
Which was exactly what he wanted

CHORUS (tag last line 3*) R. Bell
